Russia dismantles REvil ransomware gang, arrested members


Russian Federal Security Service seizes over 426M rubles, $600,000 and €500,000 during operation.

At the request of US authorities, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) on Friday detained members of REvil ransomware gang.

An operation to dismantle the group was launched jointly with the Russian Interior Ministry in five regions, a statement by FSB said.

“As a result of the joint actions of the FSB and the Interior Ministry of Russia, the organized criminal community has ceased to exist, the IT infrastructure used for criminal purposes has been neutralized. Representatives of the competent US authorities have been informed about the results of the operation,” it said.

The FSB said that more than 426 million rubles, $600,000 and €500,000 were seized at 25 addresses and 14 people were arrested.
